Smoking - week 2

Hey, just catching up on my blog, been making notes in lectures and not putting anything up here!

First the question, what is it about smoking that makes people want to do it? Often it is the characters associated with it. Cigarettes have clearly been used by hollywood as a methaphor for seduction. people also do out of habit, or because it relaxes them, maybe even as a slimmer.

I was suprised to learn that smokers pay £19,000 a min to exchequer, which is enough to pay the police force or every £1 we cost the NHS. It seems crazy how much money it costs.

The main thing is that smoking is a choice. As long as we know its bad, we can choose to do it or not ourselves. The sad thing is that smoking is an addiction, some people just don't want to give it up.

There is all sorts of different smokers, i have tried it but i don't like it. In fact i can't think of one positive thing about it! Its bad for your health, it smells horibble, and it's expensive! I'd much rather spend the money on clothes! Just look for yourself at the benefits of not smoking, http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23068824/

or this image of an ashtray, is that really attractive? But hey who am i to lecture, just giving my opinion. One thing that remains a fact, is that the world of smokers is getting smaller and smaller.

First Blog - suggestion for week 12

Hey,

I think we should definately do something to get us out of the classroom. Maybe a road trip somewhere, although can't think of a suggestion as to where. Or a prison visit, to see what the 'bad' people of society are really like, although thats unlikely to be allowed.

Or if we do stay in the classroom, maybe a session on, the 'younger generation' , as we seem to be often labelled as 'being bad', and blamed for everything, and constantly being told how things used to be better. Maybe were be able to show were not as bad as its made out!
